The Archify Sustainable Futures Report 2024

The Archify Sustainable Futures Report 2024: Australia and New Zealand conveys the results from a comprehensive survey conducted by Archify, supported by Global GreenTag, ArchitectureNow and Architecture NZ.

With hundreds of participants surveyed across the built environment sector, the Archify Sustainable Futures Report conveys the current state of sustainability in the Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) construction industries and Global GreenTag International is proud of the involvement in the development of this important report for the region.

Archify operates a comprehensive and global digital platform that connects architects, designers, and construction professionals with a vast library of building products and suppliers. The release of the Sustainable Futures Report 2024 follows Global GreenTag's recent partnership with Archify/ArchifySpec and BCI Media Group to collaborate on initiatives that help drive sustainable design in the built environment – the first being to become involved in the evolution of the Sustainable Futures Report.

For this first collaboration, GreenTag supported Archify from July to September throughout Australia and New Zealand to invite stakeholders to participate in Archify's industry wide survey to create the foundation for the report. In addition, GreenTag provided a perspective article, which is written by David Baggs, GreenTag's CEO, Technical Director and Co-founder, to help contextualise for readers the report findings.

The Sustainable Futures Report is a must read for all build stakeholders in ANZ to gain valuable insights into the priorities and perspectives of professionals in the region. It covers various aspects of sustainability, such as sustainable outcomes, barriers to achieving sustainability, the role of specification and project information and the future of sustainability policy.

More than 700 build professionals responded to the survey, the highest category being build consultants, designers, architects and engineer specifiers who formed 68% of respondents. From the survey pool, 9 % of participants came from manufacturers and suppliers in the region, 14 % were builders, contractors or sub-contractors, 5% were clients/building owners or developers and 3% of respondents registered as other.

The report states that an overwhelming majority of respondents acknowledged the importance of sustainability across social, economic and especially environmental dimensions. Yet, only 14% of respondents to the survey reported that sustainability was central to every project they worked on. To understand why this result is low, it is worth diving deeper into the Archify report. Indeed, the varied findings of the whole study are interesting and revealing, and worth analysing much further.
