Being Transparent about Modern Slavery in Construction and Ready to Act

Mary-Lou Kelly (Global GreenTag's Managing Director and Co-Founder) is taking part in a panel discussion on the topic of Modern Slavery occurring in construction supply chains at New York Build Expo in March, an open discussion that will be led by Global GreenTag Americas CEO - Daniel Huard.

Alongside Global GreenTag's CEO and Program Director David Baggs and the Global GreenTag International assessment team, Mary-Lou has been working on developing assistance for the industry to help minimise conditions of Modern Slavery prevailing in global supply chains.

On the topic for New York Build: Being Transparent about Modern Slavery in Construction and Ready to Act, Mary-Lou will explore with other panellists from the US Green Building Council and the International WELL Building Institute, how companies can become positive change agents and minimise the continuing existence of modern day slavery

Daniel Huard, CEO of Global GreenTag Americas who will be facilitating the panel topic will be asking speakers to expand on actions that are being taken and to ascertain how prepared the construction industry is ready to act. The panel will be providing answers to questions like:

What measures are companies and industry practitioners currently taking to address inhumane practices in supply chains that we think only occur in third world countries?
How can you be more aware and be preventing incidences of Modern Slavery creeping into the closets of your business?
Where is your business positioned - in relation to being responsible through proper reporting to thwart Modern Slavery occurring - up and down supply chains that you engage with?
Who are the vigilant bodies that are ready for Modern Slavery reporting and who can empower your business to be more accountable and responsible?

Daniel Huard

Possibilities of Modern Slavery occurring in supply chains have always been a requirement for assessment of products under the Global GreenTag International Product Certification Standard.

Global GreenTag International has been actively involved with a number of interest bodies in recent years to bring stronger focus to the problem of Modern Slavery and in Australia was one of the core group of companies that pledged support behind the Australian Human Rights Commission's call for Modern Slavery legislation in late 2017.
